New Jobs for New York Promotes New York as a Leader in Emerging Technologies

Albany Conference Showcases Innovations, Trends and Opportunities in Telecommunications

Albany, NY – Today in Albany, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton joined with New Jobs for New York and the Center for Economic Growth to host a conference showcasing economic growth and the job creation potential of the telecommunications industry in New York State. The conference, “Innovations and Opportunities in Telecommunications,” brought together investors, entrepreneurs and academic researchers to explore the technological and economic growth potential of the telecommunications sector in the region.

“This is an important chance for investors to see firsthand the amazing telecommunications investment opportunities that exists in the capital region,” said Senator Clinton, Co-Chair of the Advisory Board of New Jobs for New York. “By coming together in this forum, we can understand the potential impact of these technologies and develop a strategy for how we can use them to grow our economy and create jobs.”

“Innovations and Opportunities in Telecommunications” is an opportunity for emerging telecommunications companies with high-growth potential to network with investors, research institutions, and government officials; for established companies to discover partnership opportunities with start-up businesses that are commercializing cutting-edge research; and for investors to explore new technologies and new companies.

The conference featured a keynote address by Senator Clinton, a luncheon address by Gary Grube, Corporate Vice President of Technology at Motorola Labs, and included a trade show highlighting twenty of New York State’s emerging telecommunications companies and top research institutions. Senator Clinton hosted a panel discussion featuring leaders from private industry and investment in these technology sectors.

The panel discussion included John Galanti, President, Hudson Valley DataNet, Bob Geiman, General Partner, Polaris Ventures in Boston, William Kennard, Managing Director, The Carlyle Group in Washington, D.C. and Former Commissioner, U.S. Federal Communications Commission, Gary Grube, Corporate Vice President of Technology, Motorola Labs and Joshua Steiner, Managing Principle, Quadrangle Group.

This is one of the most exciting times in the history of telecommunications. The fusion of media and mobile telephony and the Internet and telecommunications is changing the way people around the world communicate and access all forms of information. Services such as voice-over IP and mobile phones that enable us to access television programs, movies and music are expected to generate a trillion dollars in revenue in the coming years.
